What are the characteristics of a thriller film?
Thriller films consist of many different characteristics, they categories into different sections including Locations, Plot, Characters and what we can expect from a thriller.
The main characteristics of a thriller film include suspension, mystery, mind games, anticipation and many more.
The majority of thriller films are generally set in places with little in the environment. This allows the viewers to focus more on what is going on between the characters. When action is incorporated into the film the environment tends to move into somewhere where there is more around them this gives the viewers more to think about making the action more unexpected.
The main characters in thrillers are often very clever and quiet. These characters are normally also reasonably athletic to allow them to be involved in the action in the film.
A thriller can consist of many different types of plots and could also have sub plots in the same film to get the viewer to think and engage them into the film more. A thriller usually starts with some action. After the action at the beginning of the film the film the brings in the suspense of a character finding information about another character. This creates a mystery for the viewer as they are sitting there anticipating what is going to happen later on in the film. Towards the end of the film more action would be brought back in. At the very end of a thriller film it can end in many different ways for example, a cliff hanger or even some sort of action.
You can see from this scene in the film Maze Runner there is little in the environment around them but you're able to be drawn into the film as you can see the anticipation on their faces and it is clear they are running from something potentially dangerous.
